Mary Kostakidis on McBride & Brennan - 26 August 2023
GUEST OVERVIEW: Mary Kostakidis was involved in public broadcasting for almost 3 decades. She was a member of the management team that set up and developed SBS television in 1980 and presented its flagship World News for 20 years. After leaving SBS her work has reflected her interest in how power is exercised and the impact on people, on democracy, in geopolitics, and in regard to human rights, and the role of the 4thEstate. Mary was a member of the Human Rights Consultation Committee that inquired into the adequacy of the protection of human rights in Australia. She has served on many Boards and Committes. In years past Mary has penned OpEds published by Fairfax and the Guardian but in more recent times has gravitated to independent media first via Declassified Australia and periodically her articles appear in John Menadue’s Policy Journal Pearls and Irritations.
